Acura ZDX: Time to Retire

2025-10-06

The adventure was short-lived for the Acura ZDX, which is bowing out after only a single year on the market.

The ZDX name was first introduced back in 2010 for a sleek, ultra-modern SUV. That model only lasted four years before being discontinued. A year ago, the Japanese automaker decided to bring the name back for its new, fully electric SUV. However, this second chapter proved even shorter than the first, as Acura has just announced the end of its production.

The End of Electric?

The first thing to understand is that the end of the ZDX doesn’t mean Acura is abandoning electric vehicles. In fact, quite the opposite — the brand’s all-new electric SUV, the RSX, is about to hit the market. Unlike the ZDX, the RSX is built on a Honda Group platform, and that may well be what prompted the automaker to retire the ZDX earlier than expected. Technology evolves quickly, and Acura clearly wants to deliver the best possible product to its customers.

That said, the Acura ZDX is far from a bad vehicle — quite the contrary. It’s based on the same platform as the Cadillac Lyriq, one of the most impressive electric vehicles available today. The ZDX delivers between 490 and 499 horsepower, with torque ranging from 437 to 544 lb-ft depending on the version. Range is equally impressive, between 447 and 489 kilometers on a full charge. It’s a comfortable, spacious, and enjoyable SUV to drive — one that had everything it needed to succeed.

A Great Opportunity

The good news is that some inventory is still available, which means it’s not too late to get your hands on a brand-new ZDX. In fact, this could turn out to be a golden opportunity for buyers, as the automaker is likely to offer substantial discounts to clear out remaining stock and make room for the RSX in dealerships.
